Desalination
Desalination plants up to 500,000 gallons per day, with the pumping systems and water reclamation around them. Reverse osmosis integrated with MBR wastewater treatment for water recovery, and the concentrate route decided as a design input rather than an afterthought.
Start a conversationWho this helps
A project where the supply is brackish and the concentrate has nowhere obvious to go.
When it is useful
At source characterisation, because recovery cannot be set until the concentrate route is.
Scope and deliverables
- Desalination plants to 500,000 gallons per day
- Brackish groundwater and seawater, supplied and delivered.
- Reverse osmosis
- Membrane systems sized to the source water and the target recovery.
- MBR wastewater treatment plants
- Integrated with RO for water recovery. A core competency, not an add-on.
- Activated sludge treatment plants
- Conventional treatment where the flows and the site call for it.
- Pumping systems and water reclamation
- The equipment around the plant that makes recovered water usable.
- Concentrate management
- Injection, evaporation, blending or offtake, decided before the plant is sized.
- Siting, offtake and funding
- Land, permits, the buyer of the water and the money that pays for it.
What sits underneath a desalination plant
Current as of 30 August 2026
The core competency beneath desalination is wastewater treatment: MBR plants and activated sludge plants, designed, sourced, built and run. Reverse osmosis produces a concentrate stream, MBR treatment recovers water that would otherwise be lost, and the two are integrated so the plant's overall recovery is set by the site rather than by the membrane.
Every additional point of recovery concentrates the reject stream further and makes it harder to place. Texas holds the largest concentration of injection wells in the country, and TCEQ maintains a Class I UIC general permit covering non-hazardous desalination brine. Knowing that route exists is not the same as having one, which is why the concentrate destination is the first design input.
Who does what
We scope, procure, coordinate and manage. Engineering design and sealed drawings are performed by registered engineering firms, and we name them on every project. District financial work is performed on the development side. It is not advice to a municipal entity regarding the issuance of municipal securities, and it is not a substitute for a registered municipal advisor, bond counsel or district counsel.
